Lone wolf and cub

Are they going to re-release the entire series in america anytime soon or should I just break down and get the recently released R2 box?

Sorry I can't tell you but I've just got the new UK box and it's pretty awesome!! The box also includes Shogun Assassin for the first time.

Re: Lone wolf and cub

Didn't know these went OOP.

The regular SD transfers on the R1 releases look spectacular.
Very satisfied with all of them.

Animego has two sets out there - Lone Wolf and Cub and a Shogun Assassin series that has one less title, since 1 & 2 are combo'd into the first one.
I do believe the visual elements are identical for each, save for titles.

Huh? Am I understanding this correctly; So 1 and 2 are missing and Shogun Assassin is there instead?? But but but... most of #1 is missing from Shogun Ass., they only used about 10 min. and the music is completely different. Plus the voice over was made for the Shogun Ass. version. Shogun Ass. is a completely different film.

Damn I'm so tempted though for the UK box since I saw the comparison on dvdbeaver recently though I know the picture on the UK box is slightly cropped, the transfers look amazing. I'm only really debating on getting the box with my tax`return though and it's also cheaper than animego's

How do you know they're cropped?

The ArtsMagic versions are clearly missing picture info left and right but the new one?

Re: Lone wolf and cub

Lone Wolf and Bay Cart is 6 discs, 6 movies. subtitled.

Shogun Assassin is five discs, five movies. The first one, as you know is a combo of LW&BC 1 & 2. Dubbed in english.

Amazon lists both R-1 as available, 150 list on sale for 105 for Lone Wolf set and 80 list on sale for 50 Shogun Assassin set.

These are great films however you get them, and though I'm a real purist I readily admit that the Shogun Assassin films are terrific.

You'd have thought that they'd just have included the US dubbed versions with the first set, and throw in the first SA. For me, they work fine either way. I have such a fondness for the first SA since that's how I originally saw it and got turned on to the series.

Re: Lone wolf and cub

Thanks for clearing that up, Steve. I still find it weird to have a Shogun Ass. set with five films tho.

Re: Lone wolf and cub

What's the deal with SHOGUN ASSASSIN films 2-5? Are they just dubbed versions of the rest of the BABY CART series? Were they dubbed back in the 80s, around when SHOGUN ASSASSIN was edited, or are they new dubs?

It sounds like the ideal thing would be to own the LONE WOLF & CUB 6-disk set, along with the first volume of SHOGUN ASSASSIN, since that's basically a new film cut from the first two. But is there any point having SA 2-5, or are they mostly just a KILL BILL cash-in?

Re: Lone wolf and cub

I remember one of them came out on vhs in the UK re-titled LUPINE WOLF back in the 80s. I think it was #3 but if there were made dubs for the other ones originally I don't know.

That is awesome. I have the Animeigo boxset and they look amazing. But, I might just double dip to get them in high definition, if they do a good transfer for that as well.

Why wouldn't it be complete? As the previous poster said yes it is most definitely complete. And this about they're cropped is something I really don't understand. I could be a blind bat but they look fine to me.
