Yes, yes, yes, do an interview, Ian. Send me some money so I can fly over at take part in it!!!

Where's that picture from? Who took it? Where is it from? Who... calm down my racing heart.

So I take it he doesn't live (as I otherwise expected) in the jungles of the Philippines or Indonesia?? Where's he at??? Is he really a teacher? I always figured he'd be a lowlife sailor or something. Do you know where he is really (originally) from??

Ian!!! For fuck's sake!!! This is truly good news!!!

Does he even know that film is such an icon among Indo/filipino/trash film fans???

Re: CRAZY INDONESIA

I thought you would like it

Well I need to try and set it up with his student. He sent my the photo, he teaches at an English language school in Indonesia. I found the student via that youtube comment he posted.

Have to see what it goes from here.

You can say that again!

Well, hopefully an interview would be possible, any kind of interview, even one over email would be great. I mean, no one's ever interviewed this guy before.

Re: CRAZY INDONESIA

Fucking wow! That pic is amazing! Learning English from him would be an intense experience... He has not lost that brutal gaze!

If someone interviews him, I'd like to know if Kaharudin Syah (Mr. Andre) was (is?) really like a father to him. I doubt that line was scripted, it was so passionate and genuine, that I feel Peter might have just had to get it out there. Jopi couldn't help but know he had a golden moment of cinema and kept it in.

I'd also be curious to know a bit about Craig Gavin and his other co-stars... What it's like to be dragged on the ground behind a couple of dirtbikes... And where the hell can I find me one of those posters??? You know the one I'm talking about... Handgun, shades, fishnet shirt - 100% BADASS!

Watching The Intruder's intro on YouTube now reminds me that there is some lifted Anton Garcia Abril music in there, the film is such a multilayered experience that it's hard to keep track of all the nuances!

Has anyone else tried watching the Greek print at 16:9? It looks good to me, I think the video might have been shot from an anamorphic print through a flat lens.

Re: CRAZY INDONESIA

This is insane!!! I have just found out that the version of RAMBU that we have in the West is another version than the one released in Indonesia!!!

Ian posted a link to the film's intro some posts back in connection with the photo, and as a response someone put up the intro from the Indonesian language version and it's the same film... but Rambu is played by a different character!!! An Indonesian guy!!! It's ridiculous! He doesn't even look like Rambo!

WTF. Wow I guess they shot two version for local and export. Still that must have cost a crap load, unless most action scenes don't show the actor during expensive destruction.

Will be a cool thing to ask Peter about.

Now I need to find some Mattei people since Reb seems to be MIA. I need to pester Andrew about that .

Oh did you know Jakoota from Strike Commando is also in Land of Death as the main merc!

This is absolutely eye-opening! I wonder if there were different versions of other Indonesian films for internal distribution. Can you imagine FINAL SCORE without Chris Mitchum? The mind boggles!

Re: CRAZY INDONESIA

Damn, those poor Indonesians! They must have never known they were being sold an inferior Rambu product! Thank goodness for the internet!

I think that intro to the Indo-version bears me out with regards to the framing/skewing issue as well, the evil dudes in the car definitely look stretched/oblong in the Greek print by comparison. Compare 32 seconds into the Indonesian print vs. 21 into the Greek...

I can't tell if the Greek print is stretched or not, but there's definitely more picture info in the Greek version. I've put both intros on my blog underneath each other and if they're played simultaneously it's easy to compare the two (I find it amazing how the same scene can play out so differently - although it's the same - due to the mere difference of another actor!):
