Re: Rare Filipino action stuff

I recently got a Filipino film called THE DAY THEY ROBBED AMERICA. I haven't finished the entire thing yet but this small clip will let you know just how awesome it is:

Keep in mind this is the first time that we see the old man and this is the entire scene from beginning to end.

Lefteris:

I just posted a review for RETURN FIRE: JUNGLE WOLF 2 on my site: Return Fire

This is Ron Marchini's third and final time playing the role of "Steve Parrish". The first two films, JUNGLE WOLF and FORGOTTEN WARRIOR (both 1986) were, indeed, lensed in the Philippines and featured a lot of Filipino talent (excerpts from both films also show up as flashback sequences in RETURN FIRE). RETURN FIRE seems to be filmed mostly in San Francisco and the surrounding area and does not look to have any Filipino involvement. There was also an unofficial sequel called KARATE COMMANDOS: JUNGLE WOLF 3 (1993), but Marchini doesn't portray Steve Parrish in it. He plays a character called "Jake Turner".

I hope this helps.

Re: Rare Filipino action stuff

This week alone, I have watched THE DAY THEY ROBBED AMERICA, THE STABILIZER and THE FORGOTTEN WARRIOR. I think I'm becoming an Indonesian and Philippines action junkie. I have POW DEATHCAMP, JUNGLE RATS, CLEOPATRA WONG and WAR VICTIMS in my "to be watched" pile. Which one should I watch next?

BTW: I think Arizal should be crowned "Best Action Director Of All Time"!

Good onya! Yeah, Arizal and H. Tjut Djalil!!! THE STABILIZER is great, be sure to get hold of RAMBU (starring Peter O'Brian) as well! Arizal also did one of the JAKA SEMBUNG films! I've been on the hunt for CLEOPATRA WONG for quite a while, I know Revenge is my destiny has it but does anybody know if there's a legit vhs/dvd/vcd out anywhere???

I am sending Fred RAMBU (THE INTRUDER) this week. I'm sure he will have to go to the hospital afterwards to get them to try and pull his jaw off the floor. Which JAKA SEMBUNG film did Arizal do? Not one of the THE WARRIOR ones was it?

'The Warrior' is just the English aka-title for the series. 'Jaka Sembung' is the original title. So yes, we're talking about the same films. Many think that there's only three films cos, well, only three of them have been out in English dubbed versions on video but actually there are five JAKA SEMBUNG films. Arizal directed the fourth one, BERGOLA IJO, which unfortunately along with the last one (to the best of my knowledge) doesn't exist dubbed or subbed.

The series:
1: THE WARRIOR/Jaka Sembung (Sisworo Gautama Putra, 1981)
2: THE WARRIOR AGAINST THE BLIND SWORDSMAN/Si Buta Lawan Jaka Sembung (Dasri Yacob, 1983).
3: THE WARRIOR AND THE NINJA/Bajing Ireng Dan Jaka Sembung (H. Tjut Djalil, 1983).
4: BERGOLA IJO (Arizal, 1983)
5: JAKA SEMBUNG DAN DEWI SAMUDRA (Atok Sugiarto, 1990)

And now, spids ørene (point your ears) as we say on these shores: If you look up BERGOLA IJO on IMDB you'll get confused! Some idiot made an entry for THE WARRIOR AND THE NINJA but put it under the wrong Indonesian title!!! Hell, some of the info on NINJA is wrong too.

As I said the first three films are out in English dubbed versions but they're difficult to get hold of these days (of course they're easy to get via the grey market) and the last two are out on VCD in Malaysia. Actually all five are out on Malaysian VCD's.

I should point out that some of my info is lifted from this page:

http://mitglied.lycos.de/gollumslair...ndtheninja.htm

- which, incidentally, is written by Günther Müller who started this very thread

Arizal is a genius. "He is the one I hate the most. I despise men like Greg Rainmaker."

After Fred gets blown out of his socks by THE INTRUDER, he'll need to be hooked up with LETHAL HUNTER. Arizal Meets Chris Mitchum!

W is totally crazy and wonderful, but my alltime favorite phillipine PA-flick is WARRIORS OF THE APOCALYPSE. Hey, it's got amazons, lasers, midgets in corpsepaint and the quest for eternal life!

Re: Rare Filipino action stuff

That one was pretty boring though - a kind of low budget action retelling of The Seven Samurai starring David Carradine (wasn't The Warrior and the Sorceress enough, David!?). The hottie from Daughters of Eve is it it though.

Re: Rare Filipino action stuff

You may very well be right, Lars, but I just can't resist buying anything that smells of Filipino trash when I find it at some second hand video store

- And I'll check out WARRIORS OF THE APOCALYPSE.

Neither could I, hense I bought it...

You're gonna love WARRIORS OF THE APOCALYPSE though, it's like Jodorowsky after the lobotomy.
